The sE Electronics BL8 is a rugged, versatile boundary microphone featuring the same hand-crafted, true condenser capsule (1/2″, ultra-thin gold-sputtered diaphragm) as the celebrated sE8 small-diaphragm condenser. It is designed for high SPL sources, making it ideal for kick drums, room miking, ambient recording, and recording acoustic pianos. It utilizes transformerless Class-A circuitry for ample headroom without distortion and has ultra-low-noise electronics. The BL8 offers onboard tone controls including a 3-way voicing switch (Neutral, Classic, Modern) to shape the mid-range, a switchable Low-cut filter (Flat / 80 Hz / 160 Hz), and a switchable attenuation pad (0 dB / –10 dB / –20 dB) to prevent input overloading. It features an all-metal construction, a dent-proof grille, gold-plated XLR connectors, and is compatible with The Kelly Shu Flatz™ Isolation System for kick drum mounting. The cardioid polar pattern helps attenuate off-axis frequencies.
