The Cisco ASR 1002-X router is delivered in a 2 rack unit (2RU) chassis. It integrates the Route Processor (RP) for the control plane, the Embedded Services Processor (ESP) for data plane traffic, and a carrier card housing I/O modules and Shared Port Adapters (SPA). It comes with 6 built-in Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports and 3 SPA slots for I/O connectivity. The system performance starts at 5Gbps (default) and is software-license upgradeable to 10Gbps, 20Gbps, or 36Gbps without new hardware. The integrated route processor includes 4GB DRAM by default, upgradeable to 8GB or 16GB. The integrated SIP is the ASR 1000-SIP10 and is not upgradable. It supports software redundancy.
