RDRAM was a breakthrough in memory performance in the late 1990s, offering significantly higher bandwidth than contemporary SDRAM. It is best known for its use in the Nintendo 64, Sony PlayStation 2, and high-end Pentium 4 desktop computers. While it provided superior performance for multimedia and 3D applications at the time, its high cost and proprietary licensing led to its replacement by DDR SDRAM technology.
