It can be used in combination with, or in place of, 1.44MB diskette drives currently installed in commercial desktop computer systems. The IBM Zip 250MB Internal Drive features a storage capacity of more than 173 1.44MB diskettes on one Zip 250 media cartridge; internal installation with connection to the IDE interface using either existing IDE cabling or the included 2- drop IDE cable; fast ATAPI Zip technology enabling a maximum sustained data transfer rate of 2.4MB per second; read/write capability for both Zip 100MB and Zip 250MB media; Zip tools with valuable format, backup, copy, and organising utilities for backup, transport, consolidation, organisation, and off-loading of valuable data from network or system hard disk drives and a power-down sleep mode to reduce unnecessary electrical power drain. The Zip 250MB Internal Drive can also be configured to function as the drive A: diskette drive for the system, enabling system boot-up from the drive.
